Health Monitoring of Pars steel structures in Sabzevar

Pars Steel Co. Sabzvar is one of the plants producing sponge iron in Iran. The factory is located near Sabzevar. Most of the site’s Structures have steel frames. One of the problems encountered in this complex is the presence of considerable vibrations on the structures. These vibrations have caused issues for the joints of these structures as well as concerns about the proliferation of these damages in the long run. For this reason, a request for inspection and monitoring of the health of the structure was sent to Kooshe sazan Mana Company from the complex.

Challenges

The aforementioned structures and mechanical equipment are a set of complex and interconnected structural elements, holders, tubes, and rotating equipment. Vibrations in such sets are unavoidable. On the other hand, vibrations with an amplitude greater than the allowable limit cause fatigue and damage to the joints and structural elements. These damages are first seen by cutting in bolts, failure in welding, and continued with damage to the main members of the structure. The design and execution of specific details that can reduce the impact of vibration damage with the lowest possible cost is the main aim of monitoring these structures.

Solutions

The first step is performing structural health monitoring tests and recording the related data and then processing the data obtained from the test using signal processing algorithms. The output of this step is the calculation of the vibration characteristics applied to the structure and the response of the intended structure. By combining the information obtained from the previous step with the information obtained from the software models related to the structure, we can measure the criticality of the existing situation and the level of vibration can be reduced from the critical to the allowable level by using structural modifications of structure and using energy damper elements.

Results

Performing periodic structural health monitoring can effectively predict the damage to the structures before their occurrence and significant damage to structures and equipment can be prevented by applying corrective modification techniques and strengthening structures.
